Many native species of wildlife have made Sandwich their home, including birds. The Sandwich Bay Bird Observatory Trust is an independent charity that has the aim of the advancement of the education of the public through the study of birds.
There is a Rare Species Conservation Centre just outside of Sandwich that is a conservation centre and zoological gardens.
Although it is only open a few days a year, the centre is home to rare and unusual animals. It operates to educate visitors and create awareness of the plight of some of the world’s lesser-known rare and endangered species of animal.
