Discovery Park’s Start Up Zone celebrates two years of nurturing new business

Posted on 04/11/16

Discovery Park celebrated the second anniversary of its Start Up Zone this week – the area dedicated to nurturing entrepreneurs and fledging businesses.

On Thursday, November 3rd, tenants, visitors and members of the Discovery Park team gathered in the Start Up Zone to enjoy a buffet and an afternoon of networking, marking the occasion of the site’s enterprising space.

The zone has offered affordable work space – from a simple desk, or a bank of desks, to one and two-person offices and includes benefits such as free Wi-Fi, shared breakout areas, print service facilities and the opportunity to join the community of tenants already on site.

Since the launch of the area in 2014, a number of entrepreneurs have seen their dreams turn to reality with the help of the Start Up Zone, with the area housing nearly 30 new businesses during this time.

Among those new companies, many have gone on to continue their business journeys by expanding on site at Discovery Park, complementing the site’s success story.

The space, currently home to a number of startups, is a fantastic open space which helps to nurture businesses among a number of sectors, from insurance to photography, who have benefitted from the plethora of tenants and keeping up with the park’s ethos – collaboration.

Jen Howell, of graphic design agency, Howell & Hicks, currently has a studio based in the Start Up Zone, and has been located on site for around nine months.

She said: “It’s a fantastic area and has been so effective for growing our portfolio of clients. The atmosphere in the Start Up Zone is really buzzing, and with so many tenants across many sectors on site at Discovery Park, a new business with the right plan is going to thrive here.

“The team at Discovery Park nurture new businesses and really offer a helping hand – it’s been amazing to be a part of it.”

There are also some plans, in their infancy, regarding expansions of current tenants based in the Start Up Zone, with companies hoping to expand into larger spaces on site after reaping the benefits of the zone.

Renata Harmadyova, Leasing Coordinator at Discovery Park, said:

“Here at Discovery Park we’ve had a variety of innovative startup companies pass through our doors and are delighted to be able to offer them the flexible, cost effective option for small companies looking to interact with other startups, expand their network and become a part of our community.

“We’re so proud of the success stories we have helped on their way during past two years, it’s fantastic to see so many people celebrating such a buzzing space.”
