Vive Le Weekend, as Sandwich turns French

Posted on 15/06/16

Discovery Park helped Sandwich go continental on June 11 and 12 for the annual Le Weekend and Le Tour de Sandwich.

The event included free live music and a French market full of tantalising gallic cuisine and for the first time a Can Can street dancing competition.

The P&O Ferries Workplace choir, who won the BBC Workplace Choir challenge in 2013 and became the UK’s ‘Best Workplace Choir’ performed at the St Mary’s Art Centre, on Saturday, June 11.

Together with a number other of street entertainers, the weekend was a jam packed affair as around 40 stalls took to Market Street and Guildhall Forecourt in the town to offer samples and sell authentic produce such as fresh meats, cheeses and wine.

On Sunday the town centre becomes a pivotal point of Le Tour de Sandwich; a 75-100km cycle for more than 400 cyclists, who start and end in the town.

Kimberley Anderson, Project Manager at Discovery Park, was instrumental in assisting Le Weekend’s team.

She said: “We are pleased to be supporting and promoting this exciting event. It is an excellent opportunity for people in Sandwich and the wider Kent community to enjoy themselves and let their hair down with some authentic French entertainment.”
