Futures for Heroes UK, a Kent based charity providing advice and support for veterans, has opened up a shop at Discovery Park in Sandwich.
Located in the Round House at the science and technology park, the shop sells a range of products from wooden gift items to furniture. Volunteers and veterans work in the charity’s wood workshop to create and manufacture the items. The shop also receives donations to sell in the shop from local businesses and members of the public.
Linda Jones, manager of the shop, said, “Although we sell many of our products online we were keen to open a shop at Discovery Park to enable people to view the work our veterans undertake and provide a ‘emporium-like’ retail outlet for those who might be looking for that unusual gift or home product.”
Lauren Moore, Facilities Coordinator at Discovery Park, said, “We are delighted that Future for Heroes UK have decided to open up a shop here. It’s a great opportunity for the charity to showcase their amazing products and it raises awareness within the local community.”
The charity, which provides ex-serviceman and women with advice and counselling, works in partnership with the SSAFA, Royal British Legion, Veterans Welfare Service, Job Centre Plus, Kent Probation, Kent County Council and other local authorities.
The shop is open on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 10am to 4pm to both Discovery Park tenants and members of the public.
