Discovery Park in Sandwich has set itself a challenge to raise enough money to ‘Sponsor a Nurse’ for the year at Thanet’s Pilgrims Hospice, as part of an exciting new partnership with the Kent charity.
Over the coming months a number of fundraising events will be taking place in support of the hospice. Tenants at the science and technology park will also be encouraged to support the hospice in whatever way they can, from volunteering days to organising their own fundraising events.
The target is to raise at least £39,000, the amount it costs per year to Sponsor a Nurse. Pilgrims Hospice in Thanet is one of three hospices run by the charity across east Kent, offering care and comfort for terminally ill people in the local community.
Karen Kenward, Regional Fundraiser Manager for Pilgrims Hospices, said: “Our vision for hospice care is that everyone should have access to the services they need to cope with an illness that cannot be cured in a compassionate way, never forgetting that each person has their own pride and dignity. Pilgrims Hospices services are free of charge. We couldn’t run our services without the overwhelming support we receive from the generous Kent community. That’s why we are relaunching the Sponsor a Nurse campaign to raise vital funds to help meet the increase in demands for these services.
“It costs £20 an hour to cover all the costs of ensuring a nurse can provide care where it’s needed – on our wards in Margate, Ashford and Canterbury, in our day hospices, in a patient’s own home, or at a community outreach group.
“It is truly wonderful news that Discovery Park has selected us as one of the charities and you can see that the amount they are hoping to raise will make a huge difference to us. Their support will enable us to continue to provide care for all who need it, both within the hospice and at home, we really cannot thank them enough for the support to us.”
Kimberley Anderson, Corporate Relations Manager at Discovery Park, said: “Pilgrims Hospices do so much locally to support patients and their families but is reliant on donations from the community to run its services.
“It’s a charity which is close to the hearts of many of our tenants here at Discovery Park and we will be doing all we can to show our support and raise vital funds as well as awareness for this deserving cause.”
Individuals and businesses joining in with Pilgrims Hospices’ Sponsor a Nurse can Give the Gift of Care by paying for one hour, one day, one week or even one month by making either a one-off donation or setting up a standing order to make regular contributions.
