Discovery Park welcomes acclaimed actress Brenda Blethyn to the site next month for a special event bringing businesses on site up to date on an ambitious project to create a new cultural heart for Ramsgate.

The star of ITV’s Vera, her many awards include a BAFTA and a Golden Globe. She has been twice nominated for an Oscar cinema and for an Emmy. She is one of the trustees of Project MotorHouse.

Its ambitious aim is to repurpose the former West Cliff Hall, the town’s old motor museum into a new leisure and entertainment centre, complete with indoor and outdoor cinemas, theatre, gallery, function rooms and a brasserie style restaurant.

The exciting vision is being designed by award winning architects, Guy Hollaway, who are also designing Elwick Place, in Ashford, and were involved in the redevelopment of Dreamland, Margate and the £100 million redevelopment of Bromley town centre.

In addition to the physical transformation, the project intends to add to the economic regeneration of the town, with a number of employment projects to create opportunities for young people.

Project MotorHouse is the brainchild of director, and former Dr Who companion, Janet Fielding, who recognised the building’s potential after moving to Ramsgate in 2008.

She will join Brenda at a drinks reception being held at Discovery Park from 4pm to 6pm on Thursday, 5 May. They will be encouraging invited guests – including businesses from across the site – to get involved.

She said:

“This project has something for everybody. It will create fabulous facilities for the area as well as helping local young people improve their skills.”

Kimberley Anderson, Corporate Relations Manager, Discovery Park, added:

“We are delighted to be able to host Brenda Blethyn and the Project MotorHouse team at Discovery Park, which has enjoyed its own regeneration over the past three years.
