Pettit Recruitment Solutions

Pettit Recruitment Solutions rounded off its first year at Discovery Park in style by being named one of the UK’s leading start ups in the Great British Entrepreneur Awards 2016.

The concept for Pettit Recruitment Solutions was developed in early 2015 by Quantity Surveyor Simon Pettit from his experience working Balfour Beatty, including the £100m London Power Tunnels project, and other high profile projects.

The new approach mixed Qualified Construction professionals such as Project Managers and Commercial Managers with elite Recruitment Consultants based on shared knowledge and training.

Pettit Recruitment completed its first assignment in January 2016 and has since gone on to supply skilled labour on some of the biggest projects at Discovery Park to date including the 300 construction jobs that will be created by the £160m BWSC Biomass renewable energy project with further projects on the horizon.

“Without Discovery Park’s flexible support to start-up companies, the Pettit Group of companies and, in particular, Pettit Recruitment Solutions would still be a work from home company,” Simon said.

“Following viewing of the offices we were able to move in within days with no messing about. I had looked at office space in Thanet and Dover, however the process was long and drawn out with pressure on committing to very long term agreements- as a start-up that is very off-putting.

“The flexibility, speed and ease of moving into Discovery Park, along with the prospective clients within the building made it an easy decision.”

“We are a start-up company and by placing ourselves at Discovery Park, we have picked up a lot of business on site that we would not have got anywhere near being based elsewhere.

“There is a community spirit in the place and businesses often refer opportunity for work to other companies within the business park, we are delighted to be based here.

“Our growth as a business over the past year has meant that we now engage the services of Kreston Reeves, Big Red , Crane Solutions and other companies all based at Discovery Park.”

“Following a good year, we now have a commitment to increasing the number of Kent based skilled labour and professionals on Kent and London projects.

“We look forward to working with Universities, Colleges and other Training Institutes to make that commitment a reality by forecasting requirements for projects in the area and highlighting skills shortages.

“We have set the wheels in motion by working closely with BWSC on the Biomass project in arranging local labour with drive and great potential to upskill their talent by completing Health & Safety qualifications and Excavator qualifications in the new year.

“That was a pilot for us, however in 2017 we will be rolling out a full scheme to promote this approach and to recommend to our clients that our informed, knowledge-led model is superior to that of standard construction agencies”

“We are working on a couple of prospective projects, and if they are agreed, we will be looking to grow our team into a larger office space at Discovery Park in 2017. Watch this space.”
