Science Mix n Meet makes Building 500 debut
Posted on 28/06/16
When it comes to science, there is no more iconic building here at Discovery Park than Building 500, gradually being brought back to life as a place dedicated to pioneering science.
It was something of a milestone then this week to hold our first Science Mix N Meet in what was formerly Pfizer’s main research facility – giving tenants a chance to see for the first time how refurbishment work is progressing.
As with all our tenant meetings, the gathering in the Lawrence Suite on Wednesday, 22 June was not only an opportunity to network (and enjoy a barbecue) but to hear updates from speakers, including news on research taking place on site.
First up was Steve Trim, Managing Director of Venomtech, which recently celebrated its second year on site. He has been enjoying some great media coverage for its work over recent weeks.
The company, extracts and supplies venom from a diverse range of species for research aimed at creating new life saving drugs.
Steve was able to able to share news on progress, including new papers on arachnid biology.
Rob Luxton, and Andy Sharp, from Agilent Technologies, a company operating in over 100 countries with approximately 12,000 employees, updated the meeting on its recent move into new office space.
Agilent is focused on life sciences, diagnostics and applied markets and has an on-site workshop with two permanent engineers in David Sage and Richard Grace.
The final speaker was Kevin Charles of Dover District Council who spoke about St James, the £53million redevelopment of Dover District Council, complete with six-screen Cineworld cinema, 108-bed Travelodge hotel, 16,000 sq ft M&S Simply Food store, along with a mix of retail and food outlets.
Lauren Moore, Leasing Executive at Discovery Park, said: “It was a fantastic event and so great to see so many faces networking over the BBQ – although the weather wasn’t the greatest!
“We have so many exciting things in the pipeline, and we’re very thankful to our speakers from Venomtech, Agilent and DDC.”
