Two teams from drug discovery services company, Peakdale have made it to the prestigious National Final of the 2017 Retro Synthesis Competition.
For a long time the UK has had a high level of synthetic organic chemistry with the competition celebrating the work being carried out by talented UK chemists from both industry and academia. Peakdale Molecular (part of the Concept Life Sciences group) has entered two teams, and both have progressed through to the grand final.
The event, organised by the Royal Society of Chemistry and science business forum SCI is open to all UK academic and industrial group, in previous years having attracted over 150 applicants, with this year’s final being held at Friday 10 March 2017 at SCI Headquarters in Belgrave Square, London.
Comprising of two rounds, the first required teams to provide both a retro and forward synthetic route to a given target which was judged on brevity of synthesis, feasibility in forward synthesis, elegance and style of presentation.
A number of teams were selected to progress to the second round where they were asked to provide a retro and forward synthetic route for another more challenging molecule. These teams - including Peakdale - will have the opportunity to present their routes to the judging panel and audience at the final. Best of luck to both Peakdale Molecular teams.
