From Green Energy to Car Sharing – Sustainability in Action

Posted on 31/05/16

We’re not just business friendly at Discovery Park. Part of our ethos from day one has been to do all we can to be kind to our environment too. Thinking Green is at the heart of all we do.

From recycling waste to persuading more people to step away from their cars – our aim is to make it easier for our tenants to think green and help reduce our carbon footprint. Here are a few examples:

Energy

Work will begin shortly on a new £150m biomass facility which will generate the entire power and heating requirements for the whole site. It is expected to take two years to complete.

Recycling

Each and every one of our kitchens on site have recycling facilities that allows tenants to separate their general waste from cardboards and plastics. Thousands of tonnes are saved from landfill each year.

Car sharing

We currently have 40 dedicated spaces in the car park closest to Innovation House and Discovery Park House. This website www.liftshare.com is a great way of finding a travel buddy to cut the cost (and the congestion).

Cycling

All over the site there are cycle store facilities for people who prefer to pedal power their way work. These bike stores have secure posts, lockers and motivational phrases over the walls to keep cyclist enthusiasm high!

Electric car chargers

A rapid electric vehicle charger, part of The Energise Network, is available outside Discovery Park House on Ramsgate Road. Thirty minutes is all it takes for a complete recharge.

As part of our sustainability drive, Paul Fulbrook, Energy manager with our on-site facilities management company, Parkserve, will be delivering an Energy Efficiency A to Z masterclass.

This one day training course takes place on Tuesday July 12 and covers a whole range of technologies that can affect energy use – from boilers and burners to lighting and ventilation.
