Discovery Park flies the flag for business success

Discovery Park returned to the UK’s leading commercial property event in London this month, to share the latest on Europe’s leading science and technology park with the industry’s movers and shakers.

It’s one of a number of events the team attend each year, to promote what is going on site, and to introduce businesses and investors to opportunities – whether as a start up company or a global science business seeking a regional hub.

We asked Leasing Director Anna Stone to give a flavour of this year’s show and the difference events like it make – not only in promoting Discovery Park but flying the flag for Dover as THE business destination for Kent and Europe.

It’s not until you’ve been to a show like MIPIM that you appreciate what a story there is to tell at Discovery Park. With thousands of property professionals and investors wandering the aisles, in search of opportunity, this is one of the best chances in the year to grab people’s attention.

This year we were delighted to support Dover District Council and the Dover Harbour Board at the Invest in Dover stand. Like us, they have a great story to tell. We’re pleased that we’re playing such a significant part of that success, with a lot more to come.

We were competing for attention with, not only other parts of Kent, but the whole of the UK. There were people here looking for space from further afield too with a large contingent from overseas.

We certainly benefited from having a great spot for the stand with plenty of footfall over the three days with Greg Clark, the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government even popping by.

It was a great way of showcasing not only the great things going on at Discovery Park, but the level of investment that is really putting the Dover and Sandwich area on the map as a great place for business to locate.

It’s not the only event that we’ve attended this week, with the Kent County Showground hosting the Kent2020 StartUp exhibition, a showcase for innovative new businesses taking their products and services to market.

The Kent2020 event allows us to set out just what we can offer those business looking to take their first steps to success, the facilities they would enjoy, and to answer any concerns they might have, not least cost.

As the UK’s flagship Enterprise Zone there are lots of benefits of taking up space at Discovery Park – from business rates relief to superfast broadband – with the costs of taking a space less expensive than they might think too.

Both these events are great for catching up with business contacts, exchanging ideas and news with your peers and most importantly of all talking with businesses about why Discovery Park could be THE place for them.

Working heads down day to day, it’s easy to forget just what has been achieved in such a short time at Discovery Park, in terms of the amazing tenants who have move to site, the jobs that have been created, the collaborative environment that has proved so attractive to all kinds of companies since we took on the site.

Events like these are a great way of sharing that story.

Discovery Park will be taking part in Genesis 2015, London’s Premier Life Science and Healthcare conference on 10 December. If you are a science tenant and would like to discuss how your business can get involved, contact Renata in the tenant liaison team on 01304 614060.

Our tenant liaison team can also help with any information you need about joining the StartUp Zone at Discovery Park.
