Charity status milestone will help simPal keep people connected

Posted on 07/04/17

Your simPal, otherwise known as simPal, are a tenant at Discovery Park, which provides an innovative service, which is the first of its kind globally.

Their aim is to help lessen the social isolation, loneliness and financial pressure many feel following a cancer diagnosis. simPal provides those affected by cancer with free calls, texts, data and a mobile phone if required. This service is completely free to the user and is non-means tested. For some this is a lifeline.

simPal was founded last year and is the result of a dynamic partnership formed between Blair Papworth, who we have worked with for a number of years and Chris Lewis, both of whom have very personal experiences of the impact of cancer in their lives.

Since its official launch, simPal have received over 300 applications for support and this is increasing daily. These applications are both direct applications and also, as a result of collaborations formed with the NHS, Healthcare professionals and charities, such as CLIC Sargent, Macmillan Cancer Information Services throughout the country, Maggies Centres, the Royal Marsden, the Christie, Guy’s and St Thomas’s Hospitals, Swallows Group Head and Neck Cancer Charity to name a few. This service is funded solely from donations.

What is their news and the milestone that they have reached you ask and what will be the next step of their journey?

As of Monday 27 March 2017, we are very pleased to announce that simPal became a registered Charity in England and Wales. We hope you will join us in congratulating them about this amazing news and wish them all the luck in the world in the next stage of their journey.

Blair Papworth, founder simPal said

“I really cannot believe that after seven years of aiming and working for this, that my dream is finally coming true and I can’t wait for the next stage in this journey.

“I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all of those who have been with me on this journey, as well as Discovery Park for the immense and ongoing support they have given myself and simPal, along with Gooey Digital, Pure Contribution, Big Red Branding, Pillory Barn, Communicate, Cubby Hole, Custom Toys, Brachers and Miles and Barr who are also tenants and have provided amazing support in one way or another, along the journey.

“Thank you also to Ardent IT Group and Gaming Vault two local businesses for their support.

“This is such an exciting time for us and we can’t wait to begin the next stage of our journey to be supporting more and more people both in the UK and then globally!”
